L&D Revolution: PwC Focuses On VR & AI For Digital Soft Skill Training

At PwC Germany and 3spin Learning, we show companies how artificial intelligence and Virtual Reality are establishing a new way of learning.

On February 11, 2025, PwC Germany, TÜV NORD Akademie, and 3spin Learning hosted an exclusive event at the PwC Experience Center in Frankfurt. The objective was to rethink the future of soft skills training with immersive VR learning solutions and AI-supported simulations.

Corporate training of the future is about to change: Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence will enable more effective and practical soft skills training than ever before. High-ranking decision-makers from HR, training, and Learning & Development were invited to experience new immersive learning methods up close and discuss the potential of AI-supported training. A particular focus was on the banking and insurance sectors. As we know, banking and insurance products in particular are often advice-intensive and therefore offer great potential for strengthening soft skills in sales. However, management training in HR and the strengthening of customer service and customer success are also promising areas of application.

PwC knows how important it is for companies to develop soft skills to ensure trust and competence in an often highly regulated market environment. However, traditional training methods have reached their limits in this area. While traditional classroom training involves high costs and logistical challenges, eLearning is scalable but often not practical enough. As a result, a broad target group has not yet been able to benefit from soft skills training. At the same time, studies show that around 85% of a workforce's success is based on soft skills.

AI-supported soft skill training allows for a paradigm shift. They offer dynamic interactions, adaptive scenarios, and an immersive learning experience through VR that specifically prepares learners for real-life challenges; role-playing like in the classroom, but with full focus on each learner and their individual needs. It is also an immediately scalable training method for hundreds or even thousands of learners, as it can be used in a web browser without a VR headset. This means that a target group can now benefit from soft skill training that was previously unable to use it at all.

Milestone Event

The event opened with three keynotes in which Leon Daniel (PwC Germany), Jasmin Paustian  (TÜV NORD GROUP), and our co-founder and CEO Thomas Hoger spoke about using immersive technologies for various soft skills training courses. Afterward, participants were invited to test the latest applications for themselves in the PwC Immersive Lab. Participants tried out various soft skills in realistic scenarios using hands-on VR simulations and interactive AI-supported dialogs and were impressed. In addition to the role plays guests received 100% individual feedback from an AI coach – based entirely on scientifically sound methods that were previously used to train the AI.

"I found the TÜV NORD Akademie training excellent. I was particularly impressed by the individual answer selection in the training. AI not only saves resources and manpower but also enables independent learning increasing motivation, self-confidence, and ultimately the productivity of employees, especially in the soft skills area."

Theresa Boucsein, Head of Digitalization, Infrareal Holding GmbH & Co. KG, Marburg-Biedenkopf

In addition to these innovative learning methods, the event offered top-class panel discussions with industry experts who discussed the potential and challenges of new technologies in continuing education. Guests at the event in Frankfurt included companies such as Commerzbank, Allianz, Nürnberger Versicherung, DekaBank and Zürich Versicherungen. In addition to banks and insurance companies, companies such as Securitas, DB Schenker, Lenovo, K+S, Evonik and Fresenius were also represented by guests.

PwC Leading The Way In AI-supported Training

PwC was an early adopter of VR training for soft skills and recognized how immersive learning can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of training. A PwC in-house study found that VR training is four times faster than traditional training and that learning is retained 275% better. However, previous VR training courses were often static, with fixed scenarios that offered little scope for individualized learning paths. The integration of AI now takes this training to an even higher level. The result is an unprecedented training method that enables the digitalization of individual soft skill training for the first time.

AI-supported soft skills training enables learners to react flexibly to different conversations and receive customized feedback through dynamic AI dialogues. Adaptive learning paths ensure that each participant is supported according to their level of competence. The training can also be expanded to different locations in a scalable and cost-efficient manner, which is particularly advantageous for internationally active companies. Multilingualism is ensured by simple means using AI.

At the event, PwC presented, among other things, a soft skills training course for advice on occupational disability insurance.

Safety By Immersive Training

TÜV NORD Akademie also sees great potential in immersive learning with AI, especially in safety-critical industries. With VR-supported training, employees can simulate realistic crises and practise how to react effectively and professionally.

This applies in particular to training in crisis communication, complaint management and leadership situations, where soft skills play a crucial role.

What Makes Immersive Soft Skill Training With AI So Effective?

By using VR, participants experience authentic conversation situations and can practice challenging interactions in a protected space. AI-supported feedback makes it possible to analyze behavior directly and identify potential for improvement. Gamification elements and interactive scenarios promote motivation and increase learning success in the long term. These training courses are also flexible and scalable worldwide, meaning that companies can adapt them for different teams, regardless of location. Studies have shown that soft skills training can increase company performance by an average of 36% and lead to a 114% increase in sales performance.

The Future Of Learning Is Immersive And AI-Supported

Especially in industries where trust and communication are essential, Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence open up completely new possibilities to prepare employees for complex challenges - not only in VR glasses, but also as a 3D experience on a normal notebook in a web browser.

PwC and 3spin Learning will continue to intensify their collaboration to further develop immersive soft skill training with AI aiming to provide companies with innovative and scalable training solutions.
